I've been having some isues with my carb. Since I did some changes to the car it has given me problems with stalling .My wife was trying to helpful and suggested that I take it to a custom hot rod shop a few miles from the house. She said take a break from the car.I took it over to the shop and ask the guy to take a hour at $110.00 per hour to look at the carb. I ask him to let know if could be tuned or should I have it replaced. He called me two days later and informed me that he looked a the carb for about a half hour and the fuel pump went out. He also said the pump started leaking and smelt like it was burnt up. At that time I told him to replace the fuel pump with the same model that was on the car. He also infomed me that the carb was to big and that I should put a 600 cfm carb on it. I ask him what he thought of the Quick Fuel 600 or 650 carb.He texted me back the next day saying that the Quick Fuel was jetted to fat. I said ok. He said the car was ready to pick up. I went to the shop to get it. He gave me a bill for $812.00. $246 for the fuel pump and five hours labor at $110.00.The rest was for taxes and misc like rags used while installing the pump. I ask him how he came up with 5 hours labor for installing a fuel pump and looking at the carb for a half hour. He said that his mechanic had to spend some time diagnosing what was wrong . Then he had to drain the tank because the pitcock did not work.He said that it was at least two hours work there. Then he informed me that the remaining 3 hours was for researching which carb I needed for my engine.I ask him where he got to ideal I wanted to spend 3 hours labor on researching which carb I needed. He said that I ask him about the Quick Fuel carb so that was instructing him to go and research the carbs.I ask him what he thought of the Quick Fuel. He is supposed to a carb specialist. He should have been able to answer that question with out spendind two and a half hours on the internet looking it up. Well we got into a big shouting match.I told him I would not leave my car there and Is $812.00 the best he's going to do. Finally he took two hours off the bill. $592.00 to look at my car and replace the pump.I installed the pump on the floor of my garage in 30 minutes. I also check the pitcock out yeasterday and there was nothing wrong with it. It worked fine.Talked to one of my friends he told me they call the shop owner (one time Dave)Really nice to know now.I ordered a sniper stealth kit for my car. I will do all the work myself.
