I just mounted a Gm 3 wire 12SI alternator on a 200ci 6 the only mods were to the engine bracket, (redrilling the mounting holes and some grinding). It even uses the same belt and adjusting bracket. The alternator cost $8.50 at pick-a-part. If anyone wants me to post pictures of the mod let me know. :D

I shifted hole pattern approx 15/16" and notched stock bracket (http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/mail1948/64%20Falcon%20Ranchero/?action=view¤t=0407111429.jpg)
new alternator mounted in bracket (head of cap screws have been ground down) long bolt is threaded rod with nut welded on one end and added 4 washers for shims (http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/mail1948/64%20Falcon%20Ranchero/?action=view¤t=0407111444.jpg) also forward end has been ground down a little to clear alternator fan.

alternator was from a 95? astro it had a v-belt pulley instead of a serpentine belt make sure to get the small plug with the two small wires.
Alternator is tucked in nice and tight to engine and looks like a stock set up. It took about 50miles for the alternator to settle down and charge at 16 volts, it started at 17.5 volts when I first started up
