What's happening???

Just wondering what some of you are doing to your Falcons in your free time to get ready for the summer season of Falcon fun. I'm getting ready to put in new front coil springs and switching over to the dual master cylinder for better stopping performance. So what are you doing?????

I'm glad you are going with the dual master cylinder upgrade. That is one less speech I will have to give. My Falcon is ready to roll. It was at the Golden Garden meeting and hopefully will keep going strong this season. I think about everything has broken on it in the last few years so most of the mechanical stuff is new. Last spring it was the wheel cylinder/brake failure thing, the year before that was a broken leaf spring with a long lead time on the special convertible front of spring hardware. See you soon, Jeff

I need to get my focus back on rebuilding my cylinder head. I took a break for a couple of months to put together a `69 CL350 I bought off craigslist. It was totally torn apart when I got it. Here's some photos of the finished project:

Rode it to work yesterday but blew the fuse twice so I've got to figure out what's going on there. I wanted something to ride to work this summer because I'll pull the Falcon engine to clean it, paint, install the head and also paint the engine bay and clean up the tunnel.

I also need to find out if I blew a fuse to my heater fan. It hasn't worked for over a week now and that's no fun on these cold, moist mornings...

I was hoping for more than just 3 responses but its a start. I was trying to get a little chit chat going back and fourth between members to start building some anticipation to get people fired up for the upcoming car season. I would like to have a fun summer working on and showing off my (work in progress) Falcon. Do the Rainier Falcons have a weekly place to meet and show off there cars?? I know that starting real soon the Maple Valley Street Rats put on a car show every friday night in Covington at the Covington Fred Meyer, most Friday nights more than 25 cars show up. Any body and everbody is welcome except 4x4's and any thing newer than 1974(I think). Maybe the Rainier Falcons would like to make it a regular thing (not required) to meet at the Covington car show the last Friday of each month. Just an idea

Of the 110 people subscribed to the forum, I'm not sure how many people regularly check in on new messages. I try to log on and check for new posts at least once a day.

We don't have a weekly meeting place. I think most of the members who regularly come to the summer car shows and meetings have too much going on with kids, spouse, work, life, etc. to show up somewhere every week. I'm really looking forward to some of the weekend shows though. It was such a wierd, wet winter I'm hoping for a nice, sunny summer!

If you go to the Covington show, let me know how it is and I can add it to the calendar. By the time I would get home from work on a Friday and clean up the Falcon, that would be too much of a drive for me but it might be a great place for members who live around there to meet occasionally.

I think having little "satellite" meetings might be a good idea. Because we're the only chapter in Washington, our coverage area is huge.

I know everyone is busy. I was thinking it would be nice to maybe have a place to go if say I have a free Friday or Saturday night and the wife says lets take the wagon and go get a burger. And say at the same time some other person or persons in the club are saying the same thing. You could say lets go to Joe's place, knowing that maybe some other members of the club would be there if they had a free night. I'm not saying a requirement to meet but just a place to go and have a better chance of seeing a member and Falcon owner. I have been to the Covington show many times and it is a very good show. The club brings in a trailer and plays golden oldies, sells Tee shirts and other items and you can learn about club membership. I would be interested in meeting with other members in the south end as maybe a sub chapter if any others are interested.

I plan to do a few shows this year and don't mind a few weekend meetings. I'm going to be really busy this year doing some remodeling here and at a friends house. Not to mention trying to rebuild an engine and install that in my pick-up, rewire my friends 65 Mustang, get my two new fenders cleaned, prepped and painted (when the weather gets good and warm), clean and do some work on my panel truck in hopes to try and sell it again this year -- and try to put out a couple newsletters. So, I suppose somewhere in there I'll have my day job and car shows. Not much... huh? :rolleyes:

Hi guys and gals,

I'm sorry to have been so absent from the list lately - I haven't forgotten about the club! As many of you know, I moved in February so the Falcon has been largely ignored since last summer. I hope to do some work on it in May if I have time before my knee surgery. At the moment, my Falcon is sitting in the garage covered with dried cherry blossoms as I drove it to my folk's house on Easter. It looked sunny when I left, but I parked under the cherry tree http://www.flickr.com/photos/sedanman/449944194/ and it then poured rain for two hours, and due to the falcon's brick-like shape the blossoms did not fly off when I got on the freeway! So my first task is to wash of the blossoms and the dust left from the Shake the Shack show last September!

Regarding free weekly events, a reminder to Roger and the rest of you who live in the North End. Every Saturday there is a free cruise-in at the shopping center in Clearview. I went once last October and was told the lot gets packed when the weather warms up. I'm going to head up there next week if it's nice. I'm starting another thread about doing a tech day in which I'll discuss what I'd like to do to my car coming up.

Well After I Parked My 60 Falcon In A Barn 18 Years Ago.... I Am Blowing Off The Dust, And Getting The Little Bird Out.
So Far I Have Done:
1. New Fuel Tank And Sender
2. Fuel Pump
3. Carb Kit
4. Heater Core
5. Heater Seals And Defrost Tubes
6. Installed Pertronix Pick-up And Msd Box (still Need To Remove The Resistance Wire From System)

7. Custom Autosound Dash Speakers
8. Converted To Alternator (cheated And Did It The Simple Way, Ford Alternator, Chrystler Regulator...probably The Easiest Way To Go...just Not All Ford Parts)


And My To Do List:
1. Replace Bent Pushrods, And Bad Rockers (anyone Have Them Laying Around?)

2. Install Stereo
3. Install Aftermarket Oil Pressure Guage
4. Lower Front End Approx 2" (anyone Try Cutting Coils?..the Right Way...no Heat)

5. Install New Front Seat Upholstery (got A Deal On Ebay For The Front Only....still Need Rear Seat)
6. Install Headlliner (probably Next Winter)
7. Add Seat Belts

Sound's like a great project! It's always fun to drag a car out of the dark and get it running again. I've revived a few mothballed cars in my time, and there's nothing like firing it up and going down the street for the first time. I have been slowly building a rotisserie to barbaque my bird. Thanks to Kenny for scrap metal for the center link and Larry for the upper half of his rotisserie I have fabricated a rotisserie that I think will work out well.

I have a few final alienments to make and the pull the motor and drive train and roast the bird!

I will try from time to time to snap some shots of the progress as I can. It wont be a fast process but it is going forward! Here is a snap shot of the base unit on rollers. Al

That looks great Al! I'm glad that metal could go to good use. That should really make working on the car so much nicer than crawling underneath to scrape 40+ years of road grime and undercoating. Plus you can always get some of your money back by selling it when the projects done.

The car in my photo is actually my dad's car - he bought it new but it's more or less been off the road since '79. Fastbacks are getting hard to find - actually rarer than convertibles, and all those continuation Shelbys being built doesen't help the availability factor! But since this isn't a Mustang forum I won't go on about it ;)

Lower Front End Approx 2" (anyone Try Cutting Coils?..the Right Way...no Heat)

I've used a cutting wheel on a drill motor - not exactly the fastest route but it's better for the springs than a torch. On original coils (six cylinder) I've found that cutting one coil lowers the car about 2 inches. I'm using v-8 coils on my six cyl. car so the formula is not as exact, nor will it be with brand new coils. I suggest cutting 1/2 coil at a time and checking, even though it's a pain to pull coils in and out several times.

Thanks for the offer, I broke down and bought one. I did a engine swap for a coworker and had the need for it so now I have one! I really didn't want to do a full resto but I am most of the way there and have more time than money so what the hell! I need to get it done and want to join in on the cruises!

I've been busy gathering parts for a new ranchero project that we purchased..
I'm hoping to have it road worthy by the end of summer and painted by next spring..
A weekly meeting would be a bit much, but thats what cruise nights are for.. show your clubs colors at your local cruise in and drum up interest on new members..
a once a month meeting would be ideal.. make it a convient place and hold it regularly at the same time and day of every month.. ie.. the first Saturday of every month at the local where ever..

Down side to all of this is I live on the wrong side of te state to attend awhole lot of the club functions.

That's great Al! It's cool to see how you used those frames I salvaged. Looks really sturdy. It may take awhile but that will be one really clean bird when you're done.

Now...I'm going to assume you'll be "scraping" it. I'd hate you see you scrap it after all that work . . . :-) ;)

Looking forward to your first show. We should have another tech day and demonstrate how dirty you can get scraping the bottom of a 40+ year old car!;)
