Wagon Tailgate Window
I went to open my rear (tailgate) window on my 61 sedan delivery today and the handle just free spun. The window won't budge. You can't open the tailgate with the window up and you can't access the bolts/screws to fix the window with the tailgate shut. Any suggestions?

Hopefully this will help. I did it once. Sort of a pain, but it's what you have to do.

Thank you very much. I was afraid i'd have to do that. The previous owner didn't leave access to the rear pillars when he finished the interior. I'll have to dig into it this weekend. Thanks again.

Yes youll have to unscrew the window rails from the inside.
My crank sometimes slips as well. It sort of jumps out of connection with the regulator mechanism.
Even after replacing the locking mechanism.
Have you tried pushing the base of the crank whilst turning it (you press the base of the crank where the lock sits, and tur the crank with you other hand as close to the lock as possible. it seams that ther is too much wiggle in mine allowing the mechanism to jump out of connection and pressing whilst gently turning keeps it in place). That's the trick with mine. I managed to open the window with the worn lock like this as well. So hopefully it works for you as well.
Good luck with the repair.

Well, I got it done and back together. Thanks for all of the info guys. After Roger posted the picture out of the manual, I realized how stupid I was for not looking there first. Anyway, I did figure out that i have a 1960 tailgate on my 1961. In 1960 the cranks were different. What happened is the lock got locked somehow and I don't have a key to the tailgate lock. I wedged the locking mechanism so that it wouldn't lock again until I have a chance to take it to a locksmith. You can't remove the lock cylinder without a key.
Again, Thanks for all the help.
